At Sigma, we believe in supporting the communities in which we operate, and we proudly contribute to various local initiatives through our Colleague Board, which encourages and welcomes everyone’s ideas and contributions. To date, we have participated in some wonderful company-wide, team and individual charity events.

Recently, the unfortunate cancellation of a much-anticipated company-wide event led to our team supporting another great initiative, turning our disappointment into a welcome donation for a worthy cause.

Following months of preparation, the One Sigma Event was fast approaching. As with every great event, a mouth-watering menu had been planned for the approximately 200 confirmed attendees.

Unfortunately, due to the adverse weather conditions in the days leading up to the event, the decision was made to postpone the conference. Not wanting any of the food pre-ordered for the occasion to go to waste – frighteningly, millions of tonnes of food is wasted across the UK each year – the team decided to donate it to Trinity Mission, a charity working from the Hope Centre in Castleford.

Local expertise on a national scale

A volunteer-based drop-in centre, Trinity Mission provides hot meals, food parcels, clean clothes, advice, support and friendship to the Castleford Community and the surrounding area. In particular, it aims to help those in the wider community who are marginalised or isolated and who may need support.

As part of its efforts, Trinity Mission hosts two two-course meals for members of the community each week, serving approximately 160 hot meals every Tuesday and Wednesday. Using the Hope Centre’s onsite kitchen, it was able to turn Sigma’s donation, which included gammon, turkey, salmon, rice, potatoes, salad and more, into nutritious meals for those in need.

Like many other charitable organisations, Trinity Mission relies on grants and donations to keep its community meal service, food bank, clothing bank and mental health support services up and running.

If you are keen to contribute to charity in Castleford, please consider supporting their cause by donating any of the following items:

  • Food, especially tinned items such as soups, baked beans, corned beef, tuna/salmon, ravioli, and vegetables, as well as sealed/dry items such as jam, super noodles, instant mash, milk powder/Coffee Mate, sugar, instant coffee, tea bags and hot chocolate.
  • Toiletry items, specifically shower gel, shampoo, toothpaste, roll-on deodorant, and toilet rolls.
  • All types of clean adult clothing and shoes in good condition.
  • Household linens such as towels, duvet sets and sheets.

As a company, Sigma has always been proud to support local charities that echo our colleague’s interests and concerns. We look forward to continuing making a positive, impactful, and constructive contribution and adding social value into our communities.
